The Taraba Internal Revenue Service (TIRS) has taken a significant step towards strengthening the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR), accountability and public service delivery with the maiden edition of its Quarterly Revenue Performance Review of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The review, held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Dr. Agbu Kefas Conference Hall, TIRS Headquarters, Jalingo, brought together key government officials, heads of MDAs and stakeholders to assess revenue performance, examine trends and identify practical measures for improving the state’s fiscal capacity.
The initiative comes amid the administration’s drive to reduce dependence on federal allocations. It provides a platform for government institutions to strengthen accountability and improve the management of public resources, with the ultimate objective of supporting infrastructure and essential services for the people of Taraba.
In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of TIRS, Brig. Gen. Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd), emphasized collaboration, transparency and sustained performance as essential to achieving the state’s revenue objectives.
The Honourable Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Sarah Enoch Adi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Douglas Kasaba, delivered the keynote address and officially declared the review open.
The Commissioner commended TIRS for initiating the quarterly review, describing it as an important mechanism for strengthening fiscal responsibility and accountability across government institutions.
She stressed that every MDA has a role in expanding the state’s revenue base and that every naira responsibly generated strengthens government’s capacity to provide infrastructure and essential services.
The programme featured presentations on the revenue performance of participating MDAs for the first and second quarters of 2026. MDA heads explained their revenue figures, highlighted operational realities and engaged in discussions on improving performance, reporting, monitoring and collection processes.
A major outcome was a renewed commitment to stronger performance monitoring, improved revenue administration, enhanced digitalisation and greater inter-agency collaboration.
TIRS also reaffirmed its commitment to addressing revenue leakages through modern collection systems, digital payment platforms and improved data management.
The maiden review marks a new chapter in Taraba’s revenue administration, shifting emphasis towards regular performance assessment, data-driven decision-making, transparency and collective responsibility.
For citizens, its broader significance is the strengthening of the link between revenue mobilisation, accountability and better public service delivery.
With sustained collaboration between TIRS and MDAs, the initiative is expected to contribute to a stronger, more sustainable and financially resilient Taraba, while reinforcing the principle that public revenue must ultimately serve the public interest and improve the wellbeing of citizens
